Classification

What an advertising call costs – the caller.

Telephone advertising without your prior express consent is, under § 7 (2) UWG (German Unfair Competition Act) unlawful. Anyone who calls must transmit their phone number (§ 120 TKG (German Telecommunications Act)); a withheld or spoofed number is in itself already a violation. The Federal Network Agency can disconnect numbers and impose fines of up to 300,000 €.

  • Report the call to the Federal Network Agency – the more reports, the sooner the number is disconnected.
  • Ask under Art. 15 GDPR where your number came from. The answer almost always leads to an address broker.
  • Object under Art. 21 GDPR. After that, you may no longer be called for advertising purposes.
  • Do not call back – with 0900, 0137 and foreign numbers, that is exactly the scam.

Frequently asked questions

Was Sie vorab wissen sollten.

How do you know whether a number is spam?

From two sources: first, from the type of number according to the Federal Network Agency's numbering plan – this shows whether it is a premium-rate number, a location-independent 032 number or an ordinary landline number. Second, from reports by other users of this site. We do not buy in any data and make no claims about the subscriber.

Is the phone number check free?

Yes, permanently and without signing in. You can check as many numbers as you like.

Do you store the numbers I check?

No. Queries are not stored. For reports we store the phone number only as a checksum (hash) – this allows reports to be counted and found again, but no searchable phone directory is created.

I am constantly harassed by advertising callers. What can I do?

Telephone advertising without your prior express consent is unlawful under § 7(2) UWG (German Unfair Competition Act). Report the call to the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) – it can switch numbers off and impose fines. Ask the caller for access under Art. 15 GDPR as to where your number came from, and object to the advertising under Art. 21 GDPR. That is exactly what we take over in our packages.

Should I call back an unknown number?

Better not for 0900, 0137 and foreign numbers: a return call can be expensive, and that is exactly what ping calls aim for. If in doubt, call the company's official number, which you look up yourself.

How do I have my own number removed from the phone book?

Via the reverse search, a listed number can be linked to a person and address. As a signed-in customer, we check whether your number can be found and file the erasure request under Art. 17 GDPR for you.
